THE HARD TRUTH ABOUT “CHURCHIANITY”
Churchianity is characterized by the belief that Sunday services, listening to sermons, and endless church programs and packaging, is our purpose as Christians…
Being part of a healthy local church expression is crucial of course. However, with any over emphasis of the pulpit driven model, celebrity pastor, or “mega church goal”, there is often very little real discipleship or personal transformation in individuals …and often little impact on society beyond the walls.
Many people today are comfortable going to church for a couple hours a week, but would be uncomfortable 2000 years ago following Jesus. Jesus will challenge you, disciple you, equip you and ask you to get out of a boat and walk on water.
Churchianity is part of our western societal culture and a contributor to community, but it doesn’t in and of itself, have what it takes to transform people who transform the world. The mandate of Jesus still requires mature disciples to fulfill the Great Commission.
