WE PROPHECY FROM THE STAGE LIKE ELIJAH, BUT IT'S NOT ENOUGH TO SAVE THE NATION
“The church has been conditioned to cheer for the prophetic word but not steward the word. As a result, many despise the word.”
We are seeing a numbness and “prophetic fatigue” in the body of Christ these days.
Remember Elijah on Mount Carmel and his showdown with the prophets of Baal?
The stage was set, and the altar prepared…
Our modern-day version might look like an actual stage, sound, lights and a band playing some intercessory style warfare rock music. One by one prophets take the microphone shouting as loud as they can to “the God that answers by fire.”
God’s Presence does indeed hit the stage and fills the room. Then we all go home after a lot of sweating and shouting, saying, “There! The nation has been changed!”
What time has now taught us, is that all the shouting and display of fire, as awesome as that is, wasn’t enough to see “a nation born in a day.” This scenario often expresses itself with our current prophet paradigm (that we hold to almost religiously) in the charismatic world.
Someone at a gathering releases a word “for the nation” followed by courageous declarations, but the nation does not change. As a result, many in the body of Christ now live in a continued state of “hope deferred.”
Unfortunately, many of us who are part of today’s prophetic movement are yet to create a culture of integrity and maturity where we dare to look back and evaluate prophetic accuracy and effectiveness.
When it comes to attempting to “change the nation”, we would rather celebrate “the moment,” rather than build something to last.
Prophecy packaged solely in epic moments at an event has worked well in the past — unfortunately, the Church is now looking for lasting fruit in the form of prophecies fulfilled.
The prophecy fatigue the Church is feeling has been especially enhanced by the absence of genuine prophetic/apostolic connection.
However, it’s the nature of Jesus that if the body is sick, or God wants to take us higher, He reserves the right to help us. With the “Elijah model” found wanting, this has set the stage for the greater New Testament upgrade prophet model. Now, here comes the Prophet Elisha Paradigm…
